THINGS TO REMEMBER
It might have been the second time Germany hosted the event, but it was the first one that they did so as a unified country. Out of all the events that transpired in this competition, unfortunately the one scene that will remain in history is the incident where Zinedine Zidane loses his temper (allegedly after a racist remark made against the females of his family) and headbutts Marco Materazzi. Despite the red card Zizou correctly received, he was still awarded the honor of being the best player of the tournament.
Another first refers to the opposite of Germany appearing as one unified nation and team. Serbia and Montenegro are two distinct sovereign countries. However, in this edition they appeared with one unified team. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, as they dissolved two months prior to the start date.

A moment of infamy: Zidane headbutts Materazzi
