THINGS TO REMEMBER
A lot of things are worth remembering out of this tournament:
- The first implementation of goal-line technology and the vanishing referee spray
- Spain, the defending champions, were eliminated after two consecutive losses. Especially at the match against the Netherlands their crushing 5-1 defeat is the most shameful they ever suffered.
- Germany became only the third team to win the competition outside it’s own continent and the first European team to do it in The Americas.
- In a tournament of shamefuls, the hosts suffered a humiliating 7-1 defeat by the champions-to-be.
- Germany and Argentina faced each other in a world cup final for the third time.
